Describe with evidence
Use a word such as “calm” to describe a fictional character, a setting or a response. Ask participants to explain what makes the description fit. This encourages a fuller sentence than simply attaching an adjective to a noun.
Try Describe without the Word
Save several adjectives to a deck. Reveal one, then describe its meaning without using that word. For “quiet,” you might say “making very little sound.” Choose examples that fit your group rather than treating labels as judgments about real participants.
Adjectives for characters, names and fantasy settings
Use this adjective generator to collect descriptive words, then check the meaning against your intended scene. A fantasy adjective generator exercise might pair “ancient” with a forest or “luminous” with a doorway. For a name adjective generator activity, choose a fictional name and give the character an adjective supported by an action in your story. The tool supplies English adjectives, not invented fantasy words or automatic character names.
Use an adjective to change a drawing
Try a random adjective generator for drawing by taking an ordinary object and changing one quality. Draw a small house, then an enormous house; compare what changed on the page. Collect an adjective and a concrete noun from separate draws, then make your own visual prompt. An adjective can change a mood or a size, but not every descriptive word has an obvious visual clue.
Questions about this tool
Can I filter adjectives by syllables?
Yes. More Filters uses pronunciation-based bundled metadata. Counts describe the included US pronunciation.
Will the tool write a description?
No. It supplies word choices and activity prompts; participants write or speak their own descriptions.
What is an adjective?
An adjective is a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. It can describe qualities such as color, size or condition: “blue,” “small” and “broken” are adjectives. In “a small boat,” “small” describes the boat. An adjective can also follow a linking verb, as in “The boat is small.”
What is an adjective example?
In “The curious child opened a wooden box,” “curious” describes the child and “wooden” describes the box, so both are adjectives. Other examples include “bright,” “gentle” and “enormous.” To identify an adjective, ask which noun or pronoun it describes in that sentence.
